T-STAR
The overall goal of the T-STAR project is to enhance the decision-making capabilities of public and private sector managers involved with invasions by alien species. The main objective is to develop a comprehensive framework and modeling system, integrating the biological profile of a pest species with economic information, to evaluate potential damages from pest invasion and the impact of alternative management decisions. A secondary objective is to develop a collaborative interdisciplinary network of institutions and resource persons active in invasive species management.
Research Activities:
- Specification of a comprehensive, conceptual model on the economic impacts from biological invasions
- Analysis of empirical case studies and estimation of economic damages for specific pest species selected by participating regions
- Development of computerized decision-making software for pest risk management.
Project Output and Outreach:
- Scientific papers and journal articles on research methodologies and economic modeling of biological invasions
- Research reports by investigators of regional case studies
- Invasive pest risk management software
- Software demonstration workshop
